A shimmery peach or golden color would look great if you have a bit of a tan. So just play around with colors that you like and try on some that you wouldn't normal think to wear you just might like them! Also, don't be afraid the experiment....it's just make up!! You should wear neutral eyeshadows to start out. Neutral eyeshadows are like skin tone colors. For example ';Kid'; from MAC is a nice neautral color that can be used in the crease or on the lid. To apply eye shadow you can use many movements. Depending on the way you want your makeup to look you can use a patting motion with the brush or you can use a side to side motion for more of a packed on look. Also make sure to blend and use a primer like Urban Decay Primer Potion to make sure by the end of the day your eyeshadow doesn't ';crease'; or have powder flakes by your crease. If you want to start out with drugstore brands you can always go to a Rite-Aid or CVS or Walgreens or ULTA to get makeup. At ULTA it is cheaper to get makeup. They have almost every drugstore brand and Benefit which I highly reccomend.
its best to experiment. if you want a simple glow you might want to go with a light gold. but that is for you to decide. :]
