What's the best eyeliner/eyeshadow for a smoky look?

What's a good eyeliner to give you a soft look? I hate eyeliner that looks like a thick line, so I want one that's more soft and smudgy... thanks! What's the best eyeliner/eyeshadow for a smoky look?
For smokey look, definitely use a soft pencil, then smudge it using a shadow. The shadow sets the pencil and making your eyeliner last longer. Always sharpen your pencil for every use.

If you don't want to use a pencil, you can use any type of cream/gel/cake eyeliner and do the same thing, but remember to use a thin brush. If using loose eye shadows, use a mixing medium to create a paste and do the same. Line your eyes and set/smudge it with eyeshadow.

Also, if you just want a soft/natural eyeliner look WITHOUT the smokey, you should checkout La Femme Cake Eyeliner. It doesn't give you the intensity of a liquid, but super easy to control. And of course it's gonna fade, but it just kind of disappears instead of smudging and running to the corner of the eyes (which I HATE).

Using brown instead of black will give you a softer look. Also, dry dark green, navy, deep purple, grey...just colors OTHER than black =]What's the best eyeliner/eyeshadow for a smoky look?
Navy is usually the color that gives you a smokey look. But so does ashy purple colors. If you want a softer smokey eye look try Clinique Eyeshadow in Stone Violet http://www.clinique.com/templates/produc鈥?/a>

But if you want a smokey eye look using eyeliner then you need a Navy blue eyeliner. One that self sharpens is probably best because it will be softer and easyer to blend. I like Cover Girls Point Plus Perfect eyeliners. What you do is-

1. Line top eyelid in a Cat Eye fashion. Do a medium-thick line.

2. Using smudger, finger, tissue, or sponge, smudge eyeliner outwards. To smudge it alot use a circular motion.

3. Highlight the inner corners of eyes, and brow bone using a simmer pear, white color to make the smokeyness stand out more.

If you have a hard time drawing a smooth line with eyeliner try heating up the eyeliner with a blow dryer to soften it.

If you have a hard time getting the smokey look go to a makeup counter at Nordstrums, Macy's, Sephora, or Ulta and ask them how to get the soft smokey eye. I rrecommendgoing to the clinique counter and asking the lady to put the Stone Violet eye shadow on you, they did it to me and it looked awesome.
Maybelline makes an excellent one - its called Bedroom Eyes and comes in a variety of colours :)

Any eyeliners that are Kohl work but if you don't have one/cant find one then just light a match and hold the eyeliner over it for a few seconds -

around 5 to 10 depending on the thickness of the eyeliner.

this will soften it and make it super easy to apply :)
Kohl pencils smudge really well. If you don't want like a black go for a charcoal-y color. Or a dark brown

Or go for a cake eyeliner. They're not as ';sharp'; I guess you could say and more soft and natural

a kohl pencil eyeline is best coz it smudges easier.
