What should i apply before using eyeshadow?

when i use powder shadow it's neither long lasting nor shimmery.In makeup tutorial videos it seems pasty.Can i go with Vaseline or oily stuff before applying shadow?help me.if u ve any suggested video links provide me too.What should i apply before using eyeshadow?
You need to apply a primer. I like Too Faced shadow insurance. It's $17. A little pricey but worth it. Here's a link to the page on the sephora website

I think L'Oreal makes one too, if that fits your budget better. Also, if you wet your brush before dipping it in the shadow, it makes the shadow go on like a cream. If you do that and then put it on dry on top that acts like a base too, and will make it a little more shimmery and last a little longer. A primer is always best though :).... Good luck!
